Packaging films containing PCR, PIR, or bio-based materials

Innovative technology and materials

Customized and functional solutions

Bioplastic and environmental films

A range of polyolefin films with a certified post-industrial recycled (PIR) content of approximately 50% and post-consumer recycled (PCR) contents of 30% and 50%, as well as other recycled films

*The term “Circular” refers to the product’s design for material recycling and/or the stated percentage of recycled content. Actual recycling depends on the packaging’s structure, collection, sorting, and the recycling infrastructure available in the region.

**In this product line, the term “Bio” refers to the specified percentage of bio-based raw materials. It does not automatically mean that the film is biodegradable or suitable for home composting under natural environmental conditions.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What do PCR and PIR mean in the context of packaging films?

PCR stands for post-consumer recycled material—plastic that has been recycled after use by end consumers. PIR stands for post-industrial recycled material and is derived from production waste. Depending on the variant, films contain certified PIR content of approximately 50% or PCR content of 30% or 50%—and are thus already aligned with the requirements of the PPWR.

What is the difference between RecyUse and RecyUse ?

RecyUse films from renewable raw materials such as sugarcane (bagasse) and are biodegradable. RecyUse films , on the other hand, films designed for maximum recyclability—they contain recycled content and can be fully integrated into existing recycling loops. Which option is right for you depends on your ESG goals and the requirements of your customers.

Are RecyUsefilms and certified?

Yes. All RecyUse-films are multilayer films and are suitable for food contact in accordance with the product-specific declaration of conformity. They meet the requirements of the FDA as well as the relevant EU standards. In addition, the films are GRS-certified (Global Recycled Standard), BSCI-audited, and manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 22000. Certificates are provided upon request.

Can bio-based and eco-friendly films also be processed on existing packaging machines?

Generally speaking, yes.films processed on standard side-sealing machines, angle-sealing machines, and flow-pack machines. They are available as flat film and tubular film, with core diameters of 76 or 152 mm, and optionally with perforation or ESD treatment. We are happy to advise you in advance on specific machine-related questions.

When will the use of recycled content in packaging films become legally required?

Under the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR), which entered into force on February 11, 2025, declarations of conformity for packaging will become mandatory starting in August 2026. Fixed minimum quotas for recycled content and design-for-recycling requirements will apply starting in 2030. Those whofilms to certified PCR orfilms now will secure early availability on the recycled materials market and avoid future supply shortages.
